Logistics environment refers to the conditions in which the goods are located throughout the flow process, there are material and non-material (such as policies and regulations), and material and man-made systems environment and natural systems environment. Goods packaging design is certainly inseparable from its own characteristics, but also closely related to the logistics environment.

(1) Operating environment

The operating environment is the man-made system environment associated with material handling and transport operations. Damage to goods is often caused by transport, storage, distribution and the choice of service. If you use your own service mode, using your own staff and operating tools, the goods can be under your own control, the damage rate can be smaller; if you use outsourcing services, the goods may go through many links, many times loading and unloading transshipment, the company's role in controlling the flow of goods is extremely limited to prevent damage to the goods of the packaging measures are more. In the logistics system, the most likely causes of cargo damage are: vibration, collision, puncture and extrusion. Vibration is common in the transport process; collision in the transport and handling process may occur; puncture is generally in the handling of the workplace around the sharp hard ware damage; extrusion mainly occurs in the stacking, too high stacking will make the bottom layer of goods deformation and crushing by pressure.

(2) Natural environment

The natural environment mainly includes temperature, humidity and other factors, and the external natural environment is mainly related to the stability and perishability of packaged goods. Some goods will soften and melt, decompose and deteriorate, and change colour at high temperatures; while some goods will burst, become brittle or deteriorate at low temperatures. It is worth reminding that for temperature-demanding goods, packaging alone is not enough; the necessary measures need to be taken in terms of transport and storage conditions. Water and steam are very damaging to goods, more harmful than temperature. Almost the vast majority of goods will be damaged to varying degrees in humid environments, such as rust, mould, shrinkage and deformation, and in serious cases, corrosion and deliquescence will occur. In addition to avoiding placing goods in a humid environment, good packaging is the most effective means of dealing with accidental moisture exposure. Other factors such as harmful chemicals in the air, some goods are easily contaminated by chemical substances and deterioration; there are also some goods are afraid of light, see the light will be discoloured, deterioration, need to take some special packaging means.
